People and organizations

  • A person needs a given name, a surname, or both.
  • An organization needs its official name, and may add an acronym.
  • Names are unique. Acronyms ignore punctuation and case, so C.I.A. and CIA are the same entry.
  • Lists and pickers show the acronym when there is one, otherwise the official name.

Dates and notes

  • People may carry an optional date of birth and death, including BC dates. Organizations do not show dates.
  • Notes take light markdown — bold, italic, strike, code, and links.
  • Acronyms are not tags. Tags stay categories.

Browsing

  • The rail splits people and organizations (asterisk is both), then letters of surname or org name, then topic tags.
  • Dice and A–Z are a random source or the catalog in surname/org order. Date added is not used. Mine and + are for your entries. Compose stays behind plus.

Who can do what

  • Thumbs up/down on a source. Signed-in only; click again to clear.
  • Create: any signed-in member. The source LDAP groups are for moderation, not for creating.
  • Edit: the author, or source mods. Delete: source mods and hub.
  • Visibility is not yours to set — sources are always public. Only source mods and hub change that.

What links back

  • A source page lists the posts that cite it, the works it contributed to, and the quotes attributed to it.
